Over the last week, the Russian traveler, Fedor Konyukhov, has made 200 miles on the rowboat “Uralaz” across the Atlantic Ocean. He is holding a course for America, which was started on October 16th from the Canary Islands. Fedor has made a goal for himself to oar across the Atlantic. He planned on doing this in 100 days; however, he has already fallen behind schedule because of a three-day storm. The traveler planned to have made 300 miles by today.
By the way he has enough food and water for exactly 100 days. According to the rules set by the London Ocean Rowing Society it is prohibited to restock the boat with edibles and water while underway. If these rules are broken, then Fedor will not be included in the ocean crossing even if he successfully reaches America.
Today the traveler stated in an interview with ITAR-TASS over the satellite telephone that he was forced to take only catnaps all week long. The anti-radar was regularly reporting that there were ships passing within a two-mile radius and it was necessary to stay in contact with them to give them his coordinates and request that the vessels be cautious. In this area of the ocean where the boat “Uralaz” is now located there is very heavy ship traffic from South America to Spain and Portugal.
Fedor Konyukhov has 2,800 miles (5,000 kilometers) left to reach the nearest American territory of Barbados.
